Welcome

Welcome to Next Chapter Literacy!

We are delighted to welcome you to the Next Chapter Literacy family. Our mission is to support children with literacy difficulties and disabilities, such as dyslexia, by providing them with the tools, strategies, and confidence they need to succeed.

At Next Chapter Literacy, we understand the challenges that come with learning to read, spell and write, and we are passionate about making this journey a positive and empowering experience for every child. We specialise in a structured literacy approach, which is grounded in evidence-based research, proven to be effective for students of all learning abilities.

Our program centres on systematic synthetic phonics, a method that breaks down the process of learning to read and spell into small, manageable steps. We tailor our techniques to each child’s unique needs, ensuring that every lesson is personalised, engaging, and effective.

Our approach focuses not only on teaching the foundational skills of reading, spelling and writing but also on fostering a love for learning. We work to build each child's self-esteem and confidence, recognising that every success, big or small, is a step forward in their literacy journey. Whether a child is just beginning to read or facing more advanced challenges, we are here to guide them through the process with patience and expertise.

At Next Chapter Literacy, we believe that every child has the potential to thrive, and we are committed to helping them unlock their full potential.

Thank you for entrusting us with your child’s learning journey. We look forward to partnering with you to create a brighter future for them, one chapter at a time.

Why a Structured Literacy Specialist...

A structured literacy specialist plays a crucial role in providing individualised, evidence-based instruction that addresses the unique literacy challenges each child faces. The approach is systematic, meaning it follows a clear, step-by-step progression, ensuring that foundational skills are built gradually and securely. This method helps children develop essential abilities in reading, spelling, and writing by targeting key areas such as phonemic awareness (the ability to hear and manipulate sounds), decoding (sounding out words), and fluency (reading with speed and accuracy).

For children with learning difficulties, particularly those with dyslexia, this type of targeted instruction is often more effective than traditional methods. The structured literacy approach focuses on explicit teaching, where concepts are clearly explained, and learning is broken down into manageable steps. It also incorporates multisensory techniques, engaging multiple senses, such as sight, sound, and touch to reinforce learning. These strategies help children connect and retain information in a way that aligns with their individual learning styles.

As children progress through this tailored instruction, they gradually develop not only academic skills but also a sense of mastery and self-assurance. This growth builds their confidence, enabling them to tackle more complex literacy tasks over time. Ultimately, structured literacy instruction equips students with the tools they need for long-term academic success, fostering improvement not just in literacy but across all areas of school performance, as stronger literacy skills are linked to better comprehension, critical thinking, and overall learning abilities.

What People Say...

GG

We’ve been working with Next Chapter Literacy for just over a term now, including their holiday intensive program, and the progress my 5-year-old son has made is incredible. He went from being behind to catching up with his peers, but what’s been most remarkable is his boost in confidence. He’s gone from quiet and unsure in the classroom to proudly speaking up and answering questions.

Raquel and Fiona have been absolutely amazing. Their support, patience, and expertise have made such a difference, and I’m so grateful for everything they’ve done. I’ve already recommended them to so many other families and will continue to do so!

Raquel and Fiona were introduced to us by a good friend, and we couldn't be happier. From the initial conversation about our daughter's needs to the first session, Raquel and Fiona have been exceptionally understanding and accommodating. They lead with curiosity and purpose, and through their lovely nature and warm approach, our daughter looks forward to each session with them. Whilst they are very focused on working on the exact needs of our daughter, the way they deliver the learning to her through literacy exercises, body movement and games has made an enormous difference already to our daughter's approach to learning. The only regret we have is that we didn't find Raquel and Fiona earlier! Thank you both for your continued support and guidance of our daughter.

Raquel and Fiona at Next Chapter Literacy have been incredible. Our 10-year-old daughter has been seeing them for about six months now, and the improvement in her literacy skills has been amazing — a real testament to their teaching methods and approach. Our daughter always looks forward to her sessions, which says so much in itself. Raquel and Fiona both have such deep knowledge and understanding of the learning challenges our daughter faces, and they’ve made her feel supported, confident, and capable. We honestly can’t recommend them highly enough!

My son completed a holiday intensive program with Raquel and Fiona and he loved every moment of it. Raquel and Fiona quickly built a rapport with my son, identified gaps in his literacy skills and addressed these in really fun and engaging ways. It is a relief to have found such knowledgeable, warm and supportive intervention specialists. We look forward to beginning our weekly sessions.

As a teacher myself and a parent of two children who have been taught by these incredible teachers, I couldn’t recommend Fiona and Raquel more highly! They are highly skilled, passionate, and deeply knowledgeable about the Science of Reading, how the brain learns to read, and the importance of explicit instruction. Their expertise and dedication have made such a significant impact on our children's learning, and I’m so grateful for the foundation they’ve provided.

Fiona and Raquel at Next Chapter Literacy have been absolutely amazing in supporting my 11 year old son with his literacy journey. As he has dyslexia, he requires additional support, and their deep knowledge of the science of reading has been invaluable. They both have first-hand experience working with dyslexic children, which really shows in their approach. They keep sessions engaging, so my son stays focused and actually enjoys learning. Beyond their expertise, they are incredibly friendly, well-organised, and always keep me informed about what they are working on with him. I couldn't ask for better Structured Literacy Interventionists!

Our 7-year-old daughter recently started with Next Chapter Literacy, and we couldn’t be happier with her progress. She absolutely loves her weekly sessions with Fiona and Raquel. In just a few short weeks, we’ve seen a tremendous boost in her confidence and enthusiasm for learning. Fiona and Raquel create a fun and engaging environment, which is evident in our daughter’s excitement to attend each session and her growing interest in reading and learning.

Raquel and Fiona have made such a difference to my son, in just a matter of weeks. After struggling with reading and writing all through primary school, we are so grateful that we found these two wonderful educators to help him as he navigates the beginnings of high school. Raquel and Fiona have given my son a new-found confidence in literacy and a willingness to try his best now that it’s all finally starting to make sense to him. Finding people that can actually make literacy make sense to him has made such a difference! Especially people that will handball the footy around with him while he learns!

We couldn’t be happier with our experience at Next Chapter Literacy. Our daughter attended their week-long intensive program, and we were amazed by the progress she made in such a short time. Fiona and Raquel were warm, patient, and incredibly skilled at engaging our daughter. Not only did we see great improvement in her literacy skills, but she also genuinely enjoyed going each day. We highly recommend Fiona and Raquel to anyone looking for literacy support.

Fiona and Raquel are warm and welcoming and did a great job of helping our daughter feel comfortable.  She was recently diagnosed with Dyslexia and Dysgraphia and Next Chapter Literacy have been wonderful.  They quickly identified exactly what she needed and as a result, she has made great gains in a short time. I would highly recommend their services!
